Tarry House focuses on working with the individual toward personal recovery goals. It is our privilege and responsibility to provide the best services possible to prepare persons for the greatest amount of independence in the community.

Tarry House Residential Treatment Home

The Tarry House Residential Treatment Home, focuses on behavioral health along and comorbid addiction recovery as needed, by helping individuals focus on their strengths, needs abilities and preferences and so that they can move to a less restrictive environment upon departure.

Frequent group and individual interventions are held to promote recovery and to learn skills to live independently. Tarry House emphasizes support, structure, and teamwork. The Client House Council Meeting is organized with an agenda and minutes. Services are to promote recovery, quality of living, and wellbeing through training in household and personal care skills, budgeting/savings, and support and oversight of the adherence to the self-administration of prescribed medication.

Consultations are held with the client the client’s treatment team and family's as needed to develop and update the resident’s Individual Residency Service Plan.

The Tarry House Residential Treatment Home can serve up to 16 people and is licensed by the State of Ohio (OhioMHAS) and receives funding from the County of Summit ADM Board. This program is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Tarry House Residential Treatment Home has 7 single bedrooms, 5 of which are wheelchair accessible.

Tarry House supports a smoke/tobacco free environment for the health and safety of both residents and staff through a ban on in-house smoking, vaping and other tobacco use.

Tarry House Respite

Tarry House Respite is a short-term transitional facility that provides housing for up to twelve people. Respite offers housing to people with mental illness who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and/or who need a step down from hospitalization. In addition, Respite can provide a much needed break or “respite” for care givers or a safe place to go if a person is currently in a dangerous situation. Referrals to Respite can come from treatment providers, family members, or individuals themselves. People are admitted on a first-come-first served basis.

Tarry House Respite is Licensed by the State of Ohio (OhioMHAS) and receives funding from the County of Summit ADM Board. Tarry House Respite is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Those served may stay up to 13 days for each admission but there are no limits to how many times an individual can utilize this respite service. Some clients will be eligible for an extended stay if approved by the ADM Board when permanent housing is imminent. These individuals on an approved extended stay, will work closely with Tarry House’s Homeless Specialist and others on their treatment team to secure stable housing. All clients have access to work with the Homeless Specialist regardless if they are on extended stay or not.

The Project Beginnings I. INC.

Project Beginnings I. Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt, not-for-profit organization that provides HUD section 811 supportive housing for persons with disabilities.  HUD provides funding to subsidize rental housing with the availability of supportive services for very low and extremely low-income adults with disabilities.  

The organization serves up to eleven adult tenants who have a history of homelessness and mental illness. The housing available  includes three 2-bedroom apartments serving two non-related adults each, one 1-bedroom apartment and a home that serves up to four adults. 

Tarry House provides management oversight and support services to Project Beginnings I.   

Tarry House is an affiliate agency of the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services Board, is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF); is licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Summit County.
