Executive Director

When AvailableDecember 16th, 2024. Full time – 40 hours per week.

General Description:

Provides leadership, overall direction and management of the planning, organizing, staffing and control functions of the Tarry House, Inc.  Interprets and implements policies approved by the Board of Trustees and is responsible for the administration of Board policies.  Prepares and presents all materials to be reviewed by and to be acted upon by the Board of Trustees.  Determines appropriate course of action related to adopted policies and procedures.  Provides leadership in the development and evaluation of all Tarry House Programs.

Oversees the selection, appointment, discipline, promotions, transfers and/or terminations of all employees.  Supervises the Accountant, Administrative Specialist, Program Managers, Maintenance and indirectly monitors the performance of all Agency employees.  Evaluates the performance of all employees for compliance with established duties, policies and objectives of Tarry House, Inc.  Promotes equal employment opportunity principles.  Reviews, updates, maintains and implements all appropriate agency personnel policies and procedures.

Ensures proper budget administration and/or financial accountability associated with operating contracts, insurance administration and all internal and external financial operations of Tarry House, Inc.  Reviews activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives, revises objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.  Receives bids for Board approval and executes contracts for work by others, monitors work and programs in progress for compliance with contractual provisions.  Authorizes expenditures and initiates the writing of proposals and grants.

Represents the Agency and acts as a liaison with regulatory agencies, local officials and community-based organizations.  Interprets and explains the Agency’s programs, policies, services, needs and other matters of mutual interests.  Reviews, approves and implements regulations and notices from governmental and regulatory agencies and oversees the responses to such in a written timely manner.  Acts as the Agency’s public relations officer, issuing all external statements to the media.

Attends on a consistent basis, meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars and other sessions to gain first-hand knowledge of new or improved behavioral health programs in the public and private sectors.  Prepares reports for internal and external use.  Responsible for the storage, retention and destruction of all administrative records.  Performs other related duties.

Applicants must have a good driving record, a current driver’s license, a dependable car, and automobile insurance. The ability to work autonomously is a must. Good computer skills are also very important.  A 4-year college degree in a related field is required, a master’s degree is preferred.  This is a salaried position with an annual salary commensurate to qualifications and experience, plus at least $6000 annually in the form of a monthly stipend.

General Schedule:

Generally, Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but flexible as the Executive Director will be working at all Tarry House facilities and programs as needed. The Executive Director is responsible for all clinical and administrative aspects of all the Tarry House programs.  Expected to work some weekends and evenings as needed.  On-call as needed for administrative, facility and clinical situations.  May work remotely with approval by the Board of Trustees.

Recovery AIDE

General Description:

Under the general Supervision of the Tarry House Program Manager, the Recovery Aide provides supervision and recovery services to individuals living in the Tarry House Recovery Home.  Duties include ensuring all persons are provided a safe, supportive living environment.  Recovery Aides will provide encouragement, education, support and direction to persons served in assisting the person served to meet his/her recovery goals.  The Recovery Aide is responsible to ensure the safety of  the persons served, co-workers and the facility.  The Recovery Aide ensures that Tarry House is maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.  While coordinating efforts with the Program Manager, and the Recovery Specialist, the Residential Aide assists individuals served in his/her self-administration of medication.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  1. Prepares meals according to the menu.

  2. Demonstrates crisis intervention skills, and skills to deal with persons served psychiatric emergencies.

  3. Conducts programming according to the programming calendar.

  4. Performs rounds as scheduled and either solves or notifies his/her supervisor of physical plant problems as appropriate.  

  5. Completes work in an accurate, neat, well-organized, and thorough manner.

  6. Paperwork is completed as expected and legible.

  7. Documents unusual, dangerous or potentially dangerous behaviors in the client notes; calls attention to this documentation by making a note in the log.

  8. Recovery Aide makes a note in the log whenever there is an unusual occurrence.  

  9. Complete major and minor unusual incident reports per the Tarry House Policy and Procedure.

  10. Reports to work on time and leaves as scheduled and works his/her scheduled shifts.

  11. Willingness to adapt to changes in responsibilities, staffing, scheduling, policies, and procedures.

  12. Completes additional responsibilities in a complete, thorough, and timely manner.

  13. Suggests improvements to Tarry House, Inc. services and programs.

  14. Demonstrates a commitment to learning new skills and strategies.

  15. Establishes positive working relationships with others and maintains a pleasant working environment.

  16. Shows knowledge of the signs and symptoms of schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses.

  17. Has a thorough knowledge of Tarry House, Inc. policies and procedures and acts accordingly.  

  18. Maintains the overall cleanliness of the facility,

  19. Performs seasonal maintenance (e.g., shoveling walks and sprinkling salt) to ensure the safety of residents, staff, and guests.

  20. Ensures that exits are cleared at all times.

  21. Has knowledge and honors all resident rights.  

  22. Performs all duties in a professional manner.

  23. Completes other duties as assigned. 

  24. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and mandatory trainings.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.

• Must be able to read and write legibly.  

• Must be able to complete all cleaning duties associated with maintaining a clean and safe home.

• Must be able to lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds of weight and frequently carry up to 25 pounds.

• Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License, have reliable transportation, have up-to-date auto insurance according to state laws.  

• Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle background check and criminal background check.
